If I had to recommend a self-help book to every social media user struggling to focus on their day-to-day activities, then this would be it. Everyone wants to be productive, yet most people aim for productivity along with a feeling of immediate gratification and fulfillment. Unfortunately, it might not be easy to balance both.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that increases our desire to take action in order to receive anticipated rewards. From a certain perspective, dopamine plays an integral role in ensuring survival and reproduction, but that is no longer relevant today because dopamine has become a source of overstimulation. Most people are so overstimulated that they are always looking for the next dopamine hit to feel some kind of superficial fulfillment. Sometimes it's by constantly checking emails; other times it involves engaging with short-form content on social media like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. When people become used to that kind of stimulation, it becomes harder to perform tasks that require focus and consistency. Thibaut Meurisse takes these problems into consideration and devises several tips to help readers with their addiction. Some of them include understanding the trap of addiction, exploring 24 and 48-hour detox, releasing good neurotransmitters like endorphins, oxytocin or serotonin that make people calm and avoiding relapse. At its core, the book devises strategies to encourage awareness and productivity to ensure readers feel encouraged to achieve their long-term goals in life. This book is easy to read and understand, especially for people who are unwilling to invest their time and energy in a self-help guidebook. The writing addresses the issues to the point and offers useful and practical solutions by giving relevant examples.

Useful, relevant and concise, I would like to give this book a rating of five out of 5.
